Tyne Cot Cemetery

Tyne Cot Cemetery is the largest British war cemetery on mainland Europe. 11,956 soldiers of the Commonwealth , together with a few of Germans are buried here. Lots of the buried soldiers were killed during the Battle of Passendale, also known as the Third battle of Ypres. The wall at the back of the cemetery commemorates 34,957 missing soldiers, who died after August 15, 1917. Their names are inscribed on the wall. The remaining names of missing soldiers are inscribed on the Menin Gate in Ypres. On July the 12th 2007, a new visitors centre and coach park were opened officially by the British Queen.
