Belgian Military Cemetery Houthulst


The Belgian military cemetery is situated southwards of the centre of Houthulst, close to the forest of Houthulst. The Cemetery was built in 1924-1925. It counts in total 1907 graves from which 1823 Belgian memorials. The cemetery is star-shaped and is 5.24 ha. Most of the soldiers died during the First World War during the end offensive of 28 September 1918, where the forest of Houthulst was recovered from the Germans. There are also 81 Italian graves, this concerns prisoners of war that were used as a living shield.
