Hill 62 – Sanctuary Wood Museum

It’s a hill nearby Zillebeke with a height of 62 metres. It was a good observation point from where the Allies could look over the German lines. The lines were manned by Canadians. On June 2, 1916 bombed the German artillery Hill 62. The Canadians were beaten back over a line of 1.200 metres. In total the Germans achieved a territorial gain of a 500 metres. The day after, a counterattack gained almost no ground. On June 13 after a strong artillery fire, Hill 62 was regained by the Allies. On Hill 62 stands a Canadian monument to commemorate the killed Canadian soldiers. Nearby Hill 62 is the Sanctuary Wood Museum. It contains equipment, weapons, saved trenches and underground constructions.
